Driftless Art Academy Intensives
Intensive programming is exactly what it sounds like: immersion in making art with longer times in the studio, more instruction, and a seriously stepped-up curriculum.
Driftless Art Academy June Intensives
Intensive season starts when Rochester Public Schools let out, usually the following Monday. The summer program is five hours a day, Monday through Friday, for four weeks, totaling 100 hours of instruction in one month. By participating in an Intensive, you can expect to cover as much as a full year of regular, weekly classes. Space is limited, and admission is based on readiness for this kind of learning.
First-Year Intensive
Students who have started, but not finished, the first or second sections of the Oil Painting Studio Program (they are working in grisaille or in basic color) can expect to complete the summer intensive in the Advanced Direct Painting section. We begin with color mixing and move quickly through basic color paintings before applying what we are learning to higher level direct paintings. They are prepared to spend the next year in regular classes to complete Advanced Direct Painting.
Second-Year Intensive
Students who have completed Advanced Direct Painting are ready to move on to Advanced Techniques in Realism, and in the Second-Year Intensive, they will see a lot of progress. We will work in two to three different styles of painting, pushing ourselves to create art that is breathtaking. After the Intensive, these students are prepared to complete Advanced Techniques over the next year of the regular Studio Program.
Third-Year Intensive
In the Third-Year Intensive, students will be working more independently--with the ready availability of instructor guidance--on finishing Advanced Techniques, doing one or more Master Copies, or developing their own, independent projects.
Fourth-Year (and beyond) Intensive
Students who are in their fourth Intensive are painting at a professional level on their own, independent projects, or executing highest-level master copies. The advantage of the Intensive for these artists is immersion, commitment of time, cooperative feedback from other artists, and access to their instructor and resources. They may choose to participate in Intensives for as many years as they wish. Materials for independent projects are not covered by the cost of the Intensive unless this is worked out in advance with Joseph.
